本写真集『MIRRORBALL』は、ひとりの写真家─中藤毅彦が、ひとつのブランド─SUGARHILLの変容を4年間に渡って記録した作品集です。

中藤が写したのは、完成されたコレクションではありません。ランウェイが始まる直前の緊張感、ショーを終えたあとの静寂、モデルたちの束の間の表情、光を反射する素材、会場を満たす熱気と気配──ルックブックには決して収められることのない一瞬の情景です。

ストリート・スナップを軸に都市を歩き続けてきた中藤は、偶然の出来に⽴ち会うことを受け⼊れ、その瞬間を⽬撃者として写し続けてきました。その視線は、ランウェイの舞台裏においても変わることはありません。

4年間、ひとりの写真家がひとつのファッション・ブランドを⾒つめ続けることで初めて浮かび上がるものがあります。それはコレクションの変遷だけではなく、ブランドを取り巻く⼈々の関係性、積み重ねられた時間、そして、⾔葉では残すことのできない空気です。

写真集『MIRRORBALL』は、SUGARHILLという「現象」を、⼀⼈の⽬撃者が4年間に渡り⾒つめ続けた記録です。

MIRRORBALL is a collection of photographs in which one photographer, Takehiko Nakafuji, has documented the transformation of a single fashion brand, SUGARHILL, over the course of four years.

What Nakafuji captures is not the finished collections. Instead, he photographs the fleeting scenes that can never be contained within a lookbook: the tension in the moments just before a runway show begins; the silence that follows the show; the models’ fleeting expressions; materials reflecting the light; and the heat and atmosphere filling the venue.

Having spent years walking through cities with street photography as his primary focus, Nakafuji has embraced the chance of encountering the unexpected, continuing to photograph each moment as a great witness. That gaze remains unchanged behind the scenes of the runway.

There are things that only begin to emerge when a single photographer continues to observe a single fashion brand over four years. It is not merely the evolution of the collections, but also the relationships among the people surrounding the brand, the passage of accumulated time, and an atmosphere that cannot be preserved in words.

The special limited edition includes an original print by Takehiko Nakafuji and comes in a specially designed sandpaper case.

著者について / About the Author
中藤毅彦（なかふじたけひこ）。1970年東京生まれ。早稲田大学大一文学部中退。東京ビジュアルアーツ写真学科卒業。都市のスナップショットを中心に作品を発表し続けている。日本各地はもちろん、東欧、ロシア、キューバ、パリ、ニューヨークなど、世界各地にて撮影を行う。裸のラリーズ、ゆらゆら帝国、恒松正敏など、ロック・ミュージシャンのオフィシャル・カメラマンを担当し、アーティストの撮影も多数行う。 写真家としての活動と併せ、東京・四谷三丁目にて自らの写真ギャラリー「ギャラリー・二エプス」を運営し、写真展を企画するほか、ワークショップ等も多数開催。 写真集に『Enter the Mirror』『Winterlicht』『Night Crawler』『HOKKAIDO: Sakuan, Matapaan』『Paris』『STREET RAMBLER』『DOWN ON THE STREET』がある。第29回東川賞特別作家賞受賞。第24回林忠彦賞受賞。

Takehiko Nakafuji: Born in Tokyo in 1970, Takehiko Nakafuji is a photographer known for his urban snapshots, photographed across Japan and internationally, including Eastern Europe, Russia, Cuba, Paris, and New York. He has worked as an official photographer for rock artists including Les Rallizes Dénudés, Yura Yura Teikoku, and Masatoshi Tsunematsu, and has photographed numerous artists. Nakafuji also runs Gallery Niepce, his photography gallery in Tokyo, where he curates exhibitions and workshops. His photobooks include Enter the Mirror, Winterlicht, Night Crawler, and Paris. He received the Higashikawa Award and Hayashi Tadahiko Award.
